Dentro la stalla moderna: il lavoro che fa la differenza

The stable manager is a complex and often mysterious figure, yet one capable of making a difference to the success of a farm, especially a large one, both in the past and today. The decline in the number of farms, while the size of those that remain, is now a global trend. In Italy in particular, from 2012 to December 31, 2025, there was a 32% decline in the number of dairy cattle farms, compared to a reduction of just 1.95% in total head. New technologies and numerous increasingly specialized professionals, such as gynecologists, podiatrists, nutritionists, food scientists, agronomists, and other industry experts, are making a strong presence in dairy farms. In this context, coordinating interventions and organizing activities are becoming increasingly complex, especially for owners already busy with the multiple tasks of farming and livestock production. In Italy, there is no school that trains and updates stable managers and breeding directors. Therefore, giving a voice to the most experienced professionals represents a valuable opportunity to share knowledge and, at the same time, introduce young people to a profession destined to be increasingly in demand. In this new interview, we gather the experience of Alberto Catellani, an established professional with decades of experience in the sector.
