This reinforced concrete home in the heart of the city was designed based on the homeowner’s simple yet evocative request: “I want to live in a space that feels safe and enveloping like a cave, yet still open and airy.” The structure is reinforced concrete, with exposed concrete finishes throughout the interior. Exterior insulation ensures a comfortable indoor environment year-round. At the heart of the home is the second-floor living, dining, and kitchen area, featuring a gently curved vault ceiling. The concrete surface is finished with a fine bush-hammered texture, creating soft, nuanced shadows unique to curved forms and enhancing the cave-like sense of being gently enclosed. At the same time, large openings frame views of greenery in the courtyard garden enclosed by the L-shaped building, allowing a strong sense of openness and connection to nature. The interior space, defined by its solid materiality and tranquil atmosphere, offers a timeless quality—allowing one to forget the passage of time despite being located in the dense urban fabric.
