Transalp Tag 5 vom Bodensee - Gardasee - Melano nach Garlate ⛺️ | E-Bike Radreise

🚴‍♀️ Day 5 – From Melano to Garlate: Between Lake Lugano and Lake Como We start in Melano, where the morning sun rises over Lake Lugano. The atmosphere is peaceful, the air still fresh, and we know: today our route takes us from the Italian-Swiss border into the heart of Lombardy. First, we follow the lakeshore, accompanied by views of the imposing Monte San Giorgio, whose ancient fossils make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We continue via Riva San Vitale to the border, and soon we are back in Italy. The landscape changes – more densely populated, but full of life, with small villages, olive groves, and vineyards along the slopes. We cycle through Varese, enjoying the mix of quiet country roads and narrow bike paths. Along the way, we are repeatedly treated to views of Lake Varese, shimmering in the sun – a hidden gem among the lakes of northern Italy. After a gentle climb, we reach Lake Como, and the sight is breathtaking: the deep blue water framed by steep mountains, villas, and cypress trees. We cycle along the eastern shore of the lake, passing through charming towns like Lecco and Malgrate, where the lakeside promenade is perfect for a break. Here, we encounter a blend of everyday Italian life and holiday atmosphere – gelato, espresso, and boats on the lake. The final kilometers take us along the eastern shore to Garlate, situated directly on a smaller inlet of Lake Como. We reach our destination for the day in the late afternoon. The view across the water, the surrounding hills, and the setting sun makes us pause for a moment – we realize that we have truly arrived in the far south. ⸻ Stage data (Day 5): • Distance: approx. 65 km • Elevation gain/loss: +700 m / -800 m • Countries: Switzerland 🇨🇭 → Italy 🇮🇹 • Highlights: Monte San Giorgio, Lake Varese, Lake Como, Lecco, Garlate
