LALGUDI, GJRK, KK.MANI, TH VINAYAKARAM - MFAC - 01.01.81

For several decades starting from 1966, it was the habit of Lalgudi fans to commence the New Year with his morning concert at the Mylapore Fine Arts Club. Started by the Balasubramanya Sangeetha Sabha, this traditional New Year’s Day morning concert was the highlight of the December season. On occasions, some of the concerts went on for four hours in front of a packed audience. Our ninth upload a New Year Day concert which took place on 1st January 1981. The three hours of musical ecstasy include a Mohanam (Kapali) packed with outstanding swarams and a rare Simhendramadhyamam RTP. To quote Pandit Ravi Shankar, “Lalgudi Jayaraman’s music is heart wrenching and divine”. One need go no further for the experience!
