“An Incurable Romantic- The Musical Journey of Lalgudi Jayaraman’, his biography, was published in 2013. For Lalgudi fans, their musical journey with the maestro began in the early 1950s. Many vividly recall the first time they heard him either live or on AIR . Fresh in the listener’s memories is his first ever solo concert performed in the Krishna Gana Sabha in 1958. It established an entirely new bani; the Lalgudibani. With its breathtaking music making and total instrument mastery, the bani was a paradigm shift. Fans flocked to his performances whether they be his great solo performances, jugalbandis, Violin Venu Veena concerts, Lec Dems, vocal concerts or concerts with numerous vocalists. This channel is hosted by a group of his fans who have been diligently collecting and digitizing hundreds of his performances over the years. It is proposed to share with rasikas, over a period of time, all these concerts subject to Copyright laws. As a first, we are uploading a solo performance where the maestro is accompanied by Srimathi Brahmanadam and the incomparable Palghat Mani Iyer. The concert includes a soulful Keeravani and breathtaking Shanmukhapriya. On the whole, the concert is one of immense beauty with the great percussionist enhancing the music throughout. In the raga malika swarams forming part of the RTP, the sollu patterns seem to mirror the raga itself.
