Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated several railway projects worth approximately ₹8,200 crore in Uttar Pradesh today, March 10, 2024 (Sunday), at a ceremony held at Manduri Airport in Azamgarh. He inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various railway projects that will strengthen Indian Railways' infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister inaugurated the electrified doubling of the Faridha-Azamgarh-Sathiaon section, the electrified doubling of the Indara-Phephna section, the electrified doubling of the Banaras-Jhunsi section, and the electrified doubling of the Ballia-Bakulhan section. He also dedicated the Bhatni-Piwkol bypass line to the nation, eliminating the need to reverse the engine at Bhatni to reconnect the coaches, ensuring uninterrupted train operations. Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the gauge conversion of the Bahraich-Nanpara-Nepalganj Road railway section. On this occasion, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga River, along with a new broad gauge railway line from Ghazipur City and Ghazipur Ghat to Tadighat. He also flagged off the MEMU train service between Ghazipur City-Tadighat-Dildarnagar Junction. After completion of this project, the region will be connected to the metropolis via a broad gauge line, enabling rapid development. The Prime Minister flagged off the inaugural special train No. 05481 from Ghazipur City via video conferencing from Azamgarh. The inaugural special train departed Ghazipur City Station at 12:30 PM, departed Tadighat at 12:47 PM, Nagsar at 1:02 PM, and Sarahula at 1:17 PM, and arrived in Dildarnagar at 1:40 PM. Inauguration of the new broad gauge line from Ghazipur City and Ghazipur Ghat to Tadighat, including the railway bridge over the Ganga River. Ghazipur is an important district in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Situated on the banks of the Ganga River, this district is also known as Lahuri Kashi. The city is also famous for its rose water. Ghazipur is home to the Regional Railway Training Institute for training railway personnel. The Perishable Cargo Center built here last year is popular with farmers and was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Ghazipur City Station is connected to major cities across the country via broad gauge. The local population has long demanded a new line connecting Ghazipur with the suburb of Dildarnagar. The Ministry of Railways approved the construction of the Ghazipur-Tarighat new line, and the foundation stone for this project was laid by the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Under the project, a new rail line from Ghazipur City and Ghazipur Ghat to Tarighat (16.79 km), including a rail bridge over the Ganga River, was constructed at a cost of ₹1,650 crore. This new rail line is located in Ghazipur district. This new rail line includes a rail bridge over the Ganga River and 12 smaller bridges. Along with the construction of the new rail line, it has also been electrified. The construction of the new rail line from Ghazipur City and Ghazipur Ghat to Tarighat, along with electrification, will promote environmental protection. The distance from Ghazipur City Station to Dildarnagar Junction Station via Varanasi is 146 km, which has been reduced to 29 km with the construction of this new rail line. Similarly, the distance from Ghazipur City station to Patna has been reduced by 24 km. The construction of this railway line will not only reduce the physical distance but also significantly reduce train travel time and provide connectivity to trains coming from Chhapra and Audhihar to the Dedicated Freight Corridor. To ensure smooth and uninterrupted train movement, a Y-connection has been created, eliminating the need for engine reversals. Trains coming from Chhapra will proceed directly to Tarighat from Ghazipur Ghat. Similarly, trains coming from Varanasi and Jaunpur will be able to proceed directly to Tarighat from Ghazipur City. This provides an alternative rail route for connecting cities in North India, including Gorakhpur and Varanasi, to cities in Eastern India, including Patna and Kolkata. The establishment of the Ghazipur-Tarighat rail link will accelerate the economic, social, and cultural development of the region.
