Rural Life in the Carpathian Mountains 🏔️ | Butchering a Whole Calf, Smoking Meat

High in the Carpathian Mountains lives a young family—Andriy and Tetiana—who work hard every day, care for their homestead, and preserve the traditions of rural mountain life. In this video, we butcher a whole calf, salt the meat, and prepare it for traditional homemade smoking. Tetiana fries some of the fresh meat for lunch, while the rest is preserved for later. Their elderly grandfather sharpens his scythe and heads out to cut fresh grass for the piglets and their pet rabbit. This is also the first day we harvest new potatoes from this year's garden. Tetiana prepares a delicious family meal with fresh meat, young potatoes, and a fresh green salad. She separates the seeds from dried caraway to make fragrant herbal tea, harvests dill and parsley to dry for winter, and waters the tomato plants growing beside the house. Meanwhile, Andriy decorates the house pillars with mosaic. Later, after the meat has absorbed the salt, we place it into the smokehouse, light the fire, and begin the traditional smoking process.
