"Gajanayutham Ganeshwaram — elephant-faced Ganesha, supreme among gods — Muthuswamy Deekshitar addresses Vighneshwara with praise, the pallavi a benediction. The kriti unfolds in raga Chakravakam, which the Dikshitar tradition names Toyavegavahini, and here Sri R K Padmanabha draws from it the veena's slow, gamaka-laden vainika style, each phrase unhurried, the steel strings carrying both structure and devotion. Accompanied by Sri Sai Giridhar on Mridangam, Sri Sai Bharath on Kanjira, Sri G Chandrasekara Sharma on Ghatam, and Sri Gopi Naadalaya on Morsing, the concert was offered at Bekal Gokulam Goushala in Periya, Alakode, Kasargod, during the Deepavali Sangeethothsavam. The kriti praises Ganesha as the destroyer of obstacles, the one worshipped by Indra, whose feet are like lotuses, who is Guruguha's elder brother and the embodiment of Pranava, the cosmic Om. Sri R K Padmanabha renders the composition in Adi thala, and Chakravakam moves with gravity and tenderness, the raga known to incite devotion and compassion, its mood stable and solemn, the veena revealing each note with precision and grace. At Bekal Gokulam Goushala, home to 225 native cows of nine indigenous breeds, the veena's resonance carried across the open space to Goumata, the silent witness. Krishna received the offering, the swara becoming prayer. The Goushala rests near the sea, not far from Bekal Fort, a place of bhakti made tangible by the presence of the cows and the continuity of gou seva.
