After 11 Weeks, We Finally Got Permission

When we first bought this old underground reservoir, we couldn't actually see what it was. The whole site was covered in over 300 trees, and because every single one was protected, we didn't even know if we'd be allowed to remove them. We are transforming an underground reservoir into our forever home. This self build project, known as The Khaleesi, documents the complete property transformation from abandoned reservoir to unique underground home. Before a single branch could be touched, every tree had to be surveyed, mapped and assessed. Structural engineers had to evaluate the impact of trees growing on and around the reservoirs, and we agreed to plant 17 new oak trees to replace those being removed. Then we waited. For eleven weeks, one question hung over everything: What if permission wasn't granted? Without access to the roof, without space for windows and doors, and without opening up the site, this project may never have moved forward. In this episode, we finally receive permission and begin clearing the site. What starts as tree removal quickly becomes something much more important: the first moment we can properly understand what we've actually bought.
