Notable Trees of the African Bush E22: Muthobi/Smelly Shepherd's Tree - Boscia foetida

It's because of the flower, not because of the shepherds themselves, that this tree is called the "Smelly Shepherds Tree". The flower has a distinct and unpleasant fragrance (although not so strong that it deters shepherds from seeking shelter in its shade on hot days). I was down in the far south of Zimbabwe, around the Shashe-Limpopo confluence, when I shot this video. A beautiful, and very little visited, part of the world. My disappointment at the lack of smelly flowers was offset by my excitement at encountering the tree itself!
