Into the Wild Africa: Iona National Park, Angola

I am often excited and enthused by the wild places I get to visit in Africa as part of my botanical adventures. But this one blew me away. Iona National Park, in the far south-west of Angola, tucked up against the Namibian border, is other-worldly in its raw beauty and visceral landscapes. Managed by those fabulous folks at African Parks, it is slowly being restored to its rightful position as one of the great parks of southern Africa. It's not rich in wildlife (although that will come), but it has the advantage of being completely devoid of tourists. It's wild, it's remote and it's not for the faint-hearted. But if you're up for adventure and you can handle yourself in the wilderness, this place might just be your nirvana. It's definitely mine!
