With daily footfall exceeding 50,000 passengers and over 200 trains zipping through, this Rs 350-364 crore project (with total Northern Railway investments hitting Rs 2,564 crore across nine stations) is transforming the outdated single-storey structure into a modern three-storey marvel, complete with a basement for enhanced functionality. What's New in the Revamp? 🌟 Ultra-Modern Infrastructure: A brand-new two-to-three storey station building on both the City and Vijay Nagar sides, spanning 1.5 lakh sqm, featuring a 72-metre-wide air concourse, full-platform roofing for all-weather protection, and state-of-the-art escalators, lifts, and staircases for seamless access. Connectivity Boost: Two 8-metre-wide foot overbridges (FOBs) designed with expertise from IIT-Roorkee, integrating multi-modal transport like metro, buses, BRT, and highways to ease congestion in the NCR. Passenger Perks: Multi-level parking, automatic ticket vending machines, rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plants, spacious waiting areas, kids' play zones, food courts, retail outlets, and dedicated spaces for local products – all while prioritizing accessibility for differently-abled travelers with improved lighting, circulating areas, and digital info panels. Additional Facilities: Demolition of old staff quarters (like the historic Ganga Hostel from 1955) to make way for a signal training school, 96 new railway quarters, a Signal & Telecommunication Hostel, and subordinate rest houses. Launched in phases since early 2023, the project faced a 6-month delay due to GRAP restrictions on construction amid air quality issues, pushing the original mid-2025 deadline to late 2025 or even February 2026. As of May 2025, progress stands at just 25%, but executed by Evanascol-Sindhuja under Northern Railway, it's on track to decongest Delhi-NCR stations and blend tradition (using local materials and GFRC panels) with cutting-edge design.
