WHAT HAPPENED to our 1969 Detroit Diesel 12v71 Engines?
What happened to our 1969 Detroit Diesel 12V71 engines? When we pulled them out of Tangaroa during our repower, everyone told us they were worth $10,000 apiece. We counted on that money to help fund the project, but reality didn’t match the promise. We tried everything—listing them on eBay, Facebook, Craigslist, even setting up our own website. After all that, the engines were still sitting in storage long after our 700 nautical mile sea trial. In this video, we take you through the full story: hauling the Detroits out, trying to part them, shutting down Blaine’s shop, and the tough choices we faced when they wouldn’t sell. We even show you the few parts that remain and what they’re being used for today. Everyone said we could cash in on these classic 12V71s, but this is what really happened. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to repower a boat and deal with the aftermath, this is the behind-the-scenes story you won’t see anywhere else.
