Canadian Army Newsreel, No. 7 (1943)

The Canadian Army Newsreels were ten-minute films, made up of a number of different stories and produced by the Canadian Army Film and Photo Unit. Dubbed with the phrase, "of the troops, by the troops and for the troops," these newsreels were distributed within the Canadian Army. Please note that some names may not be spelled correctly. 1. Black Watch Easter Service: The Montreal Highlanders attend an Easter drumhead service for Brigadier K.J. [Blackadder], the new C.E.O. in England; a parade; organ playing and singing outdoors. Medical Inspection: Major General H.M.L. Salmon makes one of his last appearances at the inspection of medical units; Brigadier J.A. [Linton], Brigadier E.A. [McCusker], Lieutenant Col. G. Kitching, Lieutenant Col. W.J. [Mooth] and Salmon inspect the field ambulance, field dressing station and the hygiene section; training session and inspections. 2. Army Soccer Finals: Major General Salmon attends a soccer match between the Seaforths and B.C. Highlanders Engineers in a country field; Salmon awards medals to the winners. 3. Baseball Season Opens: Harringate Stadium hosts the London International Baseball League opener, attended by U.S. Army General P.B. Rogers; U.S. Army Headquarters vs. the Canadian Military Headquarters; London spectators look on. 4. The King's Farm: Canadian soldiers who are also civilian farmers visit the King's Farm and look at bulls. 5. Tunnellers Receive Gibraltar Keys: Lieutenant General A.G.L. McNaughton gives watch fobs provided by C.D. Howe to R.C.E. Tunnelling Company for their service in Gibraltar; Sergeant G. [McChetney], Lieutenant A.O. [Ames], and Lieutenant J.B. [Kirk] receive prizes. 6. Khaki Close-Ups: Ordnance Clerk Private [Charmaine] Sansom and her father Lieutenant General E.W. Sansom; CWACs tote kit bags. Private J. [Jolé], Private R. [Vinyard], Private C. [Lafleur], Lieutenant A.A. [Masson], Lance Corporal J. [Laraine] attend a royal investiture. Good Friday service for the Royal Winnipeg Rifles on the Regiment's 60th birthday; Major General R.F.L. Keller and Brigadier T.G. Gibson attend. O.C.T.U. graduation of 1st class of CWACs cadet officers; parade; General McNaughton in attendance. 7. Man of Vimy: P.J. Montague inspects the Canadian Veterans' Guard (veterans of Vimy); they, along with the Canadian Branch of the British legion and U.S. soldiers, march to [Blitz St. Martin] by Westminster Abbey.
