Is E20 petrol damaging your car? In a landmark judgment, the Raipur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has issued India's first-ever verdict regarding E20 petrol damage against Maruti Suzuki. Dr. Premraj Debta purchased a Maruti Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid in June 2024, unaware that it was manufactured in January 2023 and was not E20 compliant. Due to ethanol blending, the car suffered recurring engine failures. The court ruled this as a 'deficiency in service' and ordered Maruti Suzuki to replace it with a new E20 compliant car, pay ₹1 Lakh compensation, and ₹10,000 litigation costs within 45 days, or refund ₹20,50,494 with 7% interest.
