Radial engine home made 5 cylinders 2.2 litre
First run, just a proof of concept, started 2nd flick on starter. Using a hand pump to prime the carbs but upper carb was being starved and running on 4 cylinders most of time, now using gravity feed with no issues. Interconnecting rods are machined from aluminium. Built up Master Rod (bobbin and separate number 1 con rod. Crankcase was machined from 11 inch solid ally bar. VW air cooled heads cut in half. Flywheel, modified VW air cooled weighs around 19 lbs. Ignition is 5 sets of Yam XT500 points and condensors running miniture lucas 12 volt coils. Points operated from striker plate on flywheel, wasted spark. Five 400cc snowmobile carbs. Oil pump is Electric fuel pump a 12 volt Range Rover external diesel pump running on 24 volts, giving 30 psi to crank bearing and camshaft oil jets and remainder spills off to piston and rod supply jets. 5 Yam xt500 cams cut in half re-indexed and welded. Huge thank you to Marcus at Woodley Engineering Maidenhead exceptional support for all engineering projects.
