The last speech of Enrico Berlinguer (English subtitles)

On June 7, 1984, in view of the upcoming European elections, Enrico Berlinguer held a speech in Piazza della Frutta in Padua. During the monologue, as he was about to pronounce the phrase "Comrades, work all of you, house by house, street by street, company by company", the audience and security personnel noticed that something was wrong with him! Although he was visibly weakening, he continued his speech until the end and returned to the hotel, where he fell asleep on the bed in his room, immediately entering a coma. After consulting a doctor, he was taken to the hospital in Padua and admitted in dramatic conditions. He died four days later, on 11 June, due to a cerebral hemorrhage. The statement from the health superintendent stated that the Sardinian politician had passed away at 12:45 p.m. More than a million people attended his funeral, which took place in Rome on 13 June. Never before in the Italian Republic had there been such a large gathering of people for a political personalty, to bid farewell to a politician who was considered one of the most humane, humble and honest politicians. The procession with the coffin marched from the P.C.I. headquarters, in Via delle Botteghe Oscure, to Piazza San Giovanni, making clear the admiration that a large part of Italian public opinion had for Enrico Berlinguer. The family made it known that Enrico Berlinguer, as he wished, would be buried in the Prima Porta cemetery in Rome, and not in the mausoleum in the Verano cemetery where the top leaders of the P.C.I. such as Palmiro Togliatti, Luigi Longo and Giorgio Amendola rested. May his soul rest in peace (May 25, 1922 in Sassari; † June 11, 1984 in Padova) Recommended YouTube-channel:    / @enricoberlinguer3757   The following music was used in this video: Stillstand by Muyy (Upload in 1080p HD)
