Police escort military aircraft as traffic stops for wide load; Blackburn Buccaneer attack plane

A Blackburn Buccaneer attack plane is transported under police escort across the east coast of England. Traffic is stopped by police vehicles to make way for the 6m wide load taking up both lanes of the road as it moves home. The former Royal Air Force Blackburn Buccaneer S2 had served as a gate guardian at RAF Honington in Suffolk for 40 years before it was moved to it's new home at the RAF Binbrook Heritage Centre in Lincolnshire. The Blackburn Buccaneer was a Cold War-era attack plane used by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force from 1958 to 1994. The intention of the aircraft was to strike enemy targets at very low altitudes, typically enemy warships at sea. Suffolk Police and Lincolnshire Police forces escorted the wide load using a range of BMW R1200 motorcycles, Volvo XC90 Armed Response Vehicles, a Volvo V90, a BMW 3 series and a Ford Transit with their respective Roads Policing Units/Commercial Vehicle Units.
