Peugeot 308 2.0 BlueHDi 180hp GT Review The current generation of the 308, launched in 2013, received a facelift in mid-2017 for both the hatchback and station wagon versions. The front end was redesigned with a more vertical grille, visually bringing the 308 closer to the 3008, while at the rear, Peugeot's signature three-claw design remains permanently visible. The technology also evolved, notably with the introduction of an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of a 6-speed, initially paired with the 180hp diesel engine. This version comes standard with the GT trim, which includes 18-inch wheels and a dual exhaust. The interior has seen few changes with the facelift, apart from the addition of a more responsive central screen. The clean and attractive dashboard of other 308 models is also retained, with the gauges positioned above the small steering wheel. These gauges can change color in Sport mode using the button located just behind the gear lever. The gear lever itself features a new, more modern design, with the M button providing access to a manual mode. In the rear, there are no changes: passenger space remains average for the segment, but the trunk is among the most generous. For the facelift, Peugeot has not altered the chassis, which remains a benchmark, even if this sportier version feels a bit firm at low speeds. The car retains its dynamic handling, sharp front end, and remarkable balance on the road. The diesel engine remains unchanged and delivers good acceleration, even at high speeds. The real innovation, therefore, lies in the 8-speed gearbox, which is quicker than its predecessor in shifting gears while remaining remarkably smooth. Its programming has also been improved, and you always feel like you're in the right gear. Peugeot announces a reduction in fuel consumption between the 6-speed and 8-speed versions. However, our tests indicate that fuel consumption hasn't changed in either direction and remains slightly below the class average. As for pricing, Peugeot has added an average of €350 depending on the trim level, but our GT HDI model has seen a more significant increase, now approaching €36,000. This is slightly more expensive than the Mégane dCi 165 GT, which is less powerful but equipped with four-wheel steering. At €36,000, you can also find a Golf GTD, but with a manual transmission. It exceeds €38,000 with the DSG gearbox.
