Calif. Zephyr in hazy Ft. Morgan on 17JULY2026

This morning's California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0640 MDT. (56 min. late from Chicago due to track work and single track operations). The power from P42s #135 & #29 brought the 9-car train to a stop with car 8 (coach) to the station platform for service to 2 detraining passengers and then 1 new patron boarded for a trip west. With the station work safely accomplished, Jess gave the departure order and on a clear signal the Zephyr continued its westward run with the next stop being Union Station in Denver. The sightseer/lounge car was in Phase VII livery over 3 big dents that were very visible. The last coach was a standard coach and not a combo coach/baggage car. Late addition: I forgot to add the Zephyr being buzzed by the crop duster a couple of times as it departed town. My thanks, as always, to the operating crew for the greetings today.
