La piratería a debate
The president of the Spanish Television Academy, Mariano Barroso, appeared on the radio program "La Ventana" to discuss the decision by a Murcia court to acquit the administrators of the website Seriesyonkis of intellectual property theft: "There's a fundamental problem here that goes beyond the act of theft itself; it even involves the terminology. Calling it 'piracy' has a romanticized quality that particularly irritates and offends me, because it's not piracy, it's freeloading." Pepa Blanes, head of culture at Cadena SER radio, and Javier Ruiz, head of economics, explained on "La Ventana" how online movie and TV series consumption has changed; the reasons why piracy has decreased in Spain, but also the reasons that lead—or justify—people pirating this type of digital content instead of paying for it.
