Raising awareness that you can't just hand out COPIES of something as sensitive as your ID card simply because someone asks for them, as it's a danger to your privacy and your wallet. 2. Showing that many places ask for COPIES to cover their bases, out of habit, or because it makes their lives easier, but they have NO right to do so. Furthermore, they could face a hefty fine if you report them. Below you'll find a link to a document where I explain this topic in detail, with several analyzed cases and rulings from the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD). This doesn't mean you don't have to submit it anywhere, just that you shouldn't hand it out lightly. If you end up giving it to someone, whether to avoid an argument or for whatever reason, DO NOT let them take it and scan it. Give them a redacted copy as I explain here. IMPORTANT NOTES: -------------- 🤦🏻‍♂️ NOTE 1: In the video, when adding the watermark to the ID card indicating its purpose, I accidentally left the text background on, which IS A MISTAKE and I shouldn't have done it. It's much more effective to use text without a background, for example, in red or black letters so that it contrasts with the background of the card itself. If you do it as I show in the video, it's much easier to edit and replace it with something else. It's not that important, because in any case the ID is censored and can't be used for anything, and a "cracker" isn't going to bother editing that text to throw them off 😅 But it's better to do it without the background, just with the text, so keep that in mind. 🤦🏻‍♂️ NOTE 2: When censoring the back, there are two important details I forgot in the video. The support number also appears in a small circle in the upper left corner, and you should delete it. It's a good idea to delete your parents' names as well, since they aren't needed and they're additional information that could be used for fraud. Thanks to user @AndreuPinel for pointing this out. NOTE 3: Many of you have been asking me about specific cases, such as opening a bank account or signing up for a mobile phone line, and whether or not we should give them our physical ID card to digitize and archive. This app allows you to carry your ID card securely with you and use a QR code to identify yourself to anyone. It will be mandatory to accept it everywhere (in Spain) starting in April 2026. NO, that's not the case. It's one thing to edit it on your phone, where a copy of the original is automatically saved precisely so you can undo the changes.
