Antonia Fietz is a costume designer and head of the costume department at the Braunschweig State Theater. Everything worn on stage passes through her hands – whether a tailor-made suit or a custom-made outfit from the costume store. The costume designer develops a costume concept for each production in consultation with the director, makeup artist, and set designer. They can draw on the often extensive costume store or design the costumes themselves. Usually, a combination of both is required. Imagination and creativity, as well as knowledge of styles and materials, are essential. The costume designer's designs are created in collaboration with the wardrobe master and the tailoring department. Ultimately, every garment must fit perfectly. Often, several fittings are necessary until the actor feels perfectly equipped for their role. This sometimes includes hats or masks, which are also designed by the costume designer.
