Behind the scenes at the Mehr! Theater, preparations for the "Harry Potter" performances are in full swing. They have four weeks to combine two plays into one. The director, choreographer, and magic teacher have all returned to Hamburg to ensure the now-planned single production is a perfect fit for the stage. "Die Nordreportage" follows two actors on this whirlwind tour: Vincent Lang and Zodwa Selele. Vincent has played the role of Albus, Harry Potter's son, from the very beginning. He knows the two-part version inside and out. Now he's back to working daily on the role of the young wizard. He has to learn new choreography and the shortened dialogue. As always, a high level of fitness is just as essential as perfect makeup and elaborate costumes. "I have to constantly remind myself not to act like a clown on stage, even if it's tempting. Just play my part," the young star says, seeing this as his biggest challenge. Vincent also talks about how much of Albus's character and his desire for recognition is connected to himself, and how he personally deals with his fear of failure when he suddenly feels 1,700 people watching him. The camera follows him as he jokes around with fellow actors or completes his daily workout. He's excited about the revised, shortened version of the play because it presents him with a new challenge. Like Vincent, Zodwa Selele is brimming with enthusiasm for performing. She has already made a name for herself on the musical stage. Now she's one of the newcomers in "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." Zodwa plays the adult Hermione, one of the three young heroes in the "Harry Potter" books. "I wasn't even aware that it wasn't a musical, but I've always been a Potter fan and really wanted to be part of this show," she says, her eyes sparkling. Zodwa Selele, like Vincent, is bursting with enthusiasm for performing. "The North Report" follows Zodwa to read-throughs and meetings with the director, as she's being measured for her costumes and trying on her wigs. She's still finding her way into the role of Hermione. The radiant, cheerful actress transforms into a stern Minister of Magic who confronts the threats of evil. Besides the two actors, this report shows the people behind the scenes of the play who ensure that the new, shorter version is perfectly executed in time for the premiere.
