紀伊半島を縦断中、国道371号がまさかの通行止め｜紀伊半島縦断⑤

Our journey traversing the Kii Peninsula is now entering its second half. After enjoying a bowl of raw whitebait rice in Kushimoto, we finally begin our journey home. After refueling in Kushimoto town, we head north on National Route 371. We pass under the Susami-Kushimoto Expressway, which is under construction (as mentioned in our previous video), and first head towards the scenic Ichimaiwa rock formation in Kozagawa town. From there, we continue north. National Route 371 is a national highway that runs vertically through the Kii Peninsula, but there are still sections that are not passable, marked as "dotted lines" on the map. Therefore, we have to take a detour. That location is near the Motoyama-dani Hirai Forest Road, north of Hirai. Actually, this place has a rather interesting history and circumstances that you wouldn't know just by looking at a map. Why isn't it connected despite being a national highway? Why is it still marked as a dotted line on the map? And as we actually started riding, the rugged terrain of the Kii Peninsula became apparent. Please watch the full video for the rest of the story.
