Verkehrshistorischer Tag 2016 (Teil 5): Rundfahrt durch Hamburgs Nordwesten

This year's "Verkehrshistorischer Tag" (Traffic history day) took place on October 9th, 2016. On this day many historical vehicles of Hamburg public transport are presented in operation. Every year there is a schedule for this event which allows users to travel with various vehicles and change between rail, bus and boat at various places. In this year you could go for a trip through the north-western parts of Hamburg and adjacent parts of Schleswig-Holstein. On Hamburg underground there was a historical train, consisting of a TU 2 car and two T-Cars (11 and 220), operating between Berliner Tor and Niendorf-Markt. From there you could go to Quickborn by bus. Historical buses owned by the Hamburger Omnibus Verein (HOV) were in service on this line. In Quickborn there was a connection to the AKN railway offering a service to Eidelstedt. A diesel railcar from the 1950s (Uerdinger Schienenbus) took over this part. From Eidelstedt you could return to the centre of Hamburg by means of the S-Bahn (suburban rail) train, class 470. There was another underground train, class DT 1, in service on the underground circle line, now known as line U 3. As some of the vehicles are of considerable age, technical problems may occur although the owners do everything to keep them in an excellent technical state. Underground car 11 got a problem with a bearing and had to be withdrawn from service during the day. One of the two AKN diesel railcars also had a technical problem. So the remaining car was very crowded.
