Homogeneous Finland is not an easy breeding ground for most Somalis to get grounded in. Racism and violence were part of the daily reality from the arrival of the first Somalis in the 1990s, with the result that the Somali community holds firmly to its own traditional culture and religion. The new generation does its best outside to be liked by white Finns, inside it adheres to traditional and often conservative cultural values. This creates a false identity among many young Somali Finns, something Ikenna holds up a confrontational mirror to.
