5 Jeep Fixes Before Our Next Big Adventure
Before the next big adventure, Calypso needed a few upgrades. In this video, we’re back in the garage with Calypso for a round of new Jeep updates, repairs, and changes to get the Wrangler ready for the next adventure. First up, we install a set of Internal Door Panel Pockets from Unofficial Use Only. These replace the factory Jeep door net pockets that eventually stretch, sag, and lose their usefulness. The new solid pockets clean up the interior and give us a much better storage solution for everyday use and long overlanding trips. Next, we install a Borla Climber Touring cat-back exhaust system. This exhaust is designed with off-road clearance in mind by relocating the muffler and tailpipe into safer positions, helping reduce the chance of damage during extreme off-roading and rock crawling. We take a listen to the new exhaust tone. Then, somewhat regrettably, we remove the Calypso hood decals. The red had faded into pink over time, so we decided to return to the stock Rubicon hood decals. Before installing the new decals, I use a clay bar to thoroughly clean and prep the paint so the new graphics have the best surface possible. The fourth update is removing the TrailRax system we had been using to carry our fuel and water RotopaX. While the setup worked well, it was starting to cause a small amount of damage to the Jeep’s hardtop. To solve that, we’re switching over to SeaSucker mounts. We’ll be testing them in rugged conditions on our next adventure to see how well they hold up. Finally, we swap out the stock LED fog lights for a set of Baja Designs Squadron-R SAE fog lights to improve visibility at night, in fog, and in poor weather conditions. Along the way, I also show the cleaned-up engine bay and share a few install tips, including greasing U-joints and using anti-seize on skid plate bolts to make future maintenance a whole lot easier.
