MALERWEG | Stage 4 | The Longest Walk

The third day (but 4th stage) of a 120km adventure along one of Germany's most scenic hiking trails. This is the longest section of the Malerweg and definitely one of the most dramatic. This video covers the sections from Altendorf to Neumannmühle (18.3 km). Day 3 was long but interesting. I saw a real variety of landscapes, including forests, caves, waterfalls, stone pillars, rock arches large and small and breathtaking plateaus. For those of you walking, the campsite was called Thorwaldblick and can be found on the edge of Hinterhemsdorf village. To camp there you have 3 options: (1) Catch a bus from the end of stage 4 which stops right next to the campsite, (2) Start walking stage 5 which will take you through the village of Raumicht (a 30 min walk from campsite) or (3) walk along the road from Neumannmühle which takes 90 mins. If none of these appeal, there are regular buses and trams from both Neumannmühle and Lichtenhainer Waterfall towards Bad Schandau.
