3er Encuentro Nacional de Vaquería Dorexpo (La Dorada, Caldas) - TvAgro por Juan Gonzalo Angel

Twitter @juangangel Vaquerías were unguarded cattle reserves, delimited by nooks formed by water currents. This practice involved hunting bulls and cows in open fields, carried out on the Río de la Plata during the Spanish colonization. Over time, the term "vaquería" came to refer to the permit granted by the authorities to hunt and later to the territory in which that permit could be exercised. It is the immediate antecedent of the estancia, or River Plate hacienda. One of the most important in the Banda Oriental was the Vaquería del Mar, located between the Cebollatí and Tacuarí river basins, in the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Permits were granted only to city residents to organize vaquerías. This livestock wealth was initially used by indigenous groups to trade with the Spanish. It was later exploited by the Creole gauchos and spread rapidly thanks to the growing global demand for leather resulting from the nascent industries. Between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, parallel to the decline of Potosí and, consequently, of its supplier regions in the Northwest, Cuyo, and the Mediterranean, there was a slow and gradual rise in the economies of the Argentine coast. This increase was partly due to the recent global demand for cowhides, primarily due to the emerging manufacturing industries for pipe and tap joints.
