Le campane della Madonna di Campagna a Pallanza, Verbania

The first chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was built on the outskirts of Pallanza in the Middle Ages, next to the small river. In the 14th century, the chapel began to be the destination of numerous pilgrimages, after the installation of the painted Marian effigy. The oratory was officiated by the canons of Intra (Verbania), until the bishop of Novara granted a resident rector in 1364. Expansion work began in 1519, but turned into a total rebuilding of the old structure, which was demolished after permission was obtained. The worshippers obtained permission to keep the table painted in the Middle Ages and the marvellous Romanesque, completed 1075. The construction was completed as early as 1527, preserving part of the old masonry. The three-nave church was consecrated on 5 January 1547 by the Archbishop of Milan. In 1572, the cardinal entrusted the care of souls to the parish priests of Suna and Pallanza together, a situation that lasted until May 1822. The church was only erected as an autonomous parish in 1957. The 11th-century bell tower is preserved almost in its entirety original, except for the belfry added together with the casting of the new bell concert. The three original bells were made in 1844 by Giovanni Battista Mazzola. The main bell cracked in 1923 and was recast by Roberto Mazzola, who added another bell. The concert in G major was enlarged in 1996 with a new fifth bell. g' - a' - b' - c'' - d'' The beautiful façade was made of local stone, recalling the old church. The most interesting part is the tiburium and bell tower, whose profile makes the church famous throughout the province. The five side chapels and the dome were frescoed at the end of the 16th century and equipped with many Baroque works of art. Above the main entrance is a pipe organ dating back to 1892 by Alessandro Mentasti. The first video of the year was made in this magnificent church, considered an Italian national monument. One of the most beautiful bell towers in Europe, a symbol of magnificent medieval architecture.
