[4K] 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Glasgow Subway | “The Clockwork Orange”

The subway in Glasgow is the third oldest in the world having opened in 1896. It has never been extended from its original length and is quite the peculiar system. Trains are very small with the height inside the trains being only 1.9 meters high at the tallest point. They’re also relatively short in length measuring a little under 40 meters. Frequencies are pretty high on the system and it does connect to a couple important places in the city. The most recent plan for modernization includes the automation of the line, hence the platform screen doors in some clips. The older trains were recently replaced in 2024 by new Stadler made stock which is what will allow the line to be automated. I find this system really interesting even for a regular tourist to try out since you really don’t expect it to be as small as actually is. Tickets are pretty cheap with a day pass only costing £3.40 and I honestly do recommend a visit even if it isn’t to get somewhere since the line truly is unique in the world.
