Tokyo's first slaughterhouse opened in Shirokane Village (now Shiba-Shirokane) in 1867 during the Edo period. It was closed and reopened several times, and was in use until 1912. The word "slaughterhouse" might sound intimidating to some, but it's a highly necessary occupation in today's world, and for me, it makes me think of yakiniku and sukiyaki.
