Magpie Mine & Monsal Dale Walk | Peak District Circular via Ashford in the Water & Sheldon

We started at Magpie Mine, one of the most dramatic spots in the Peak District, and this walk just kept delivering. The ruins of a 250-year-old lead mine sit exposed on the White Peak plateau, and from there we dropped down into Ashford in the Water, followed the River Wye through Monsal Dale, past Monsal Weir and near Monsal Head, then climbed back up through Sheldon to finish. Around 8 miles, 3-4 hours, and it packs in more than most walks twice the distance. Parking: Free layby at Magpie Mine. Ashford in the Water car park (DE45 1QG) is donation-based (£2 suggested) if you'd prefer to start from the valley. White Lodge car park is also on the route (£1.50-£4.75). Toilets at Ashford in the Water and White Lodge. Food and drink: The Devonshire Arms in Sheldon is right on the route. In Ashford in the Water you've got the Bulls Head, Ashford Arms and Aisseford Tearooms on Church Street. A few stiles throughout so not ideal for big dogs. The stretch near Magpie Mine is exposed and can turn cold even in summer, worth packing a layer. 👉 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more adventures! 🥾🌟 Watch Next: 🍃 Our hike around the Edale Skyline:    • Edale Skyline | Peak District | Sunrise to...   🏔️ Our first trip to the Lake District:    • Our first Lake District trip together | Bo...   Links: 📸 Follow us on Instagram:   / roaming_withus   🎥 TikTok for behind-the-scenes fun: https://www.tiktok.com/@roaming_withu... 🛑 Don’t forget to subscribe to our channel for weekly adventures! 🥾 #peakdistrict #magpiemine #monsaldale #peakdistrictwalks #hikingcouples
