Jesus in Genesis: The Image of God

Man was created in the image of God to reflect His character, authority, and glory on earth, but this role ultimately foreshadowed Jesus Christ, who is the perfect and exact image of the Father. While humanity’s reflection of God was distorted by sin, Christ perfectly reveals God’s nature and fulfills what humanity was originally created to be. Through faith in Christ, believers are united with Him and are being transformed into His likeness, becoming bearers of His image by the work of the Holy Spirit. Thus, man as God’s image-bearer points to Christ, and in Christ, believers are restored to reflect God’s glory as they were always intended to do.
