American actor Richard Gere starred in the lighting of the giant Christmas tree in Murcia's Plaza Circular. Accompanied by his wife, Alejandra Gere, and the city's mayor, José Ballesta, Gere pressed the button that illuminated a gigantic 35-meter-tall Christmas tree, topped with a heart and a wreath bearing the slogan: "A Christmas for the history books. 1200 celebrating it together." Also present were a group of children with cancer supported by the Aladina Foundation. Earlier, Gere attended the laying of the foundation stone for a gymnasium for young children with cancer at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia.
