Midsummer is officially coming to an end, and late summer is beginning. Weather-wise, midsummer is (as expected) picking up again. Remember: In June, we talked about how, after a low point, summer would pick up speed again in August. And that's exactly what's happening now. It won't be nearly as dry, but it will be hot, as in June. A great deal of heat is brewing before summer will likely end in the last decade of August. According to current trends, we're entering a classic transitional autumn situation. And autumn is, after all, the transition from summer to winter, and the beginning of autumn is logically closest to summer. (Please don't try to convince anyone that summer lasts until September 23rd. This is the calendar or astronomical beginning of autumn and has nothing to do with the weather outside or phenological conditions. It's not even used in meteorology.) This transition will begin as cold air production begins in the Northern Hemisphere. Anything from hot temperatures to dramatic drops with snow down to around 2000 meters is possible, even within a few days. And you know what that is? Completely normal! One more note about the small video pan. Of course, it's not shot from top to bottom, but from diagonally below. But I'm not making a new video for that ;). The video pan was shot at an altitude of approximately 2750 meters. The Rofenkarferner glacier is located above Vent in the Ötztal Alps, diagonally below the Wildspitze (3768m) and below the Kreuzerschneide (3677m).
