A little coral reef for Nate's Birthday

I’m back in the studio (aka my home office) at the crack of dawn to try a "Plan Z" pour! After an underwhelming pour with paints that were too thick, I’m thinning things out a bit! I’m experimenting with density again. I want to have a little control over what my paints do—no matter the brand or color. By using 2 slightly different pouring medium recipes, I can control which paints have a tendency to sink and which ones will swim or make cells. There’s still more work to do to refine this. .. but it’s working! Today’s palette is inspired by Nate Bright's favorite colors: The Blues: Phthalo Blue, Payne’s Grey, Pebeo iridescent green-blue, TLP Tailfeather and Sea Glass mixed with Phthalo Blue The Glow: Pebeo Iridescent Orange Yellow, custom mixed reddish orange and Deco Art 24K Gold. The White: Amsterdam Titanium White The Pouring Medium: US Floetrol, Golden Heavy Gel Gloss (similar to Mina Villegas Art’s recipe). I’ve modified this a bit to play with the density of my paints. More to come on this . . . Morning Studio Vibes: Balancing art and the 9-to-5 (painting at 4:00 AM is my favorite way to start the day!). The "Coral Reef" Effect: Watch the orange and blue harmonize into a gorgeous, deep green that looks like a hidden underwater world.
