Spirit of Freedom - Bobby Sands
Bobby Sands by the Spirit of Freedom. Bobby Sands was a PIRA hunger striker in the 1981 Hunger Strike in Long Kesh. Escalating the blanket protest and dirty protest to a Hunger Strike - Bobby was the first to begin his fast on the 1st of March. On the 5th of May 1981, Bobby died (aged 27) on his 66th day on hunger strike. Bobby was elected as an MP for Fermanagh South-Tyrone by-election that April while on Hunger Strike - receiving 30,493 votes.
