Part 1 – Building a New 12" Clawhammer Banjo Welcome to Part 1 of a brand-new banjo build! In this episode, I make a 12-inch oak block rim for a handcrafted clawhammer banjo. You'll see the complete turning process from start to finish as the rim gradually takes its final shape on the lathe. A special feature of this banjo is its integral wooden tone ring, made from the same solid oak as the rim. During the build, I carefully choose the profile of the wooden tone ring, as its shape has a significant influence on the banjo's tone, response, and playing feel.
