Be still and know - Psalm 46:10

BE STILL AND KNOW Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” This verse is one of the most loved promises in all of Scripture. It is God’s invitation to step away from the noise, the pressure, and the distractions of life and enter into His presence. Many people want God’s peace, God’s guidance, and God’s strength, but few are willing to slow down long enough to enjoy God’s presence. The Lord says: “Be still, and know that I am God.” I. THE COMMAND TO BE STILL Being still does not mean doing nothing. It means ceasing from striving and remembering who God is. Often we try to solve every problem ourselves. We worry. We rush. We fret. We carry burdens that God never intended us to carry. Yet God gently says: “Be still.” Stop running. Stop panicking. Stop trying to control everything. Trust Me. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply resting in God. II. KNOWING GOD PERSONALLY The verse does not simply say, “Be still.” It says: “Be still, and know that I am God.” God desires a relationship with His people. Many know about God. Far fewer truly know Him. Moses knew His ways. David knew His heart. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened. Paul desired: “That I may know him.” — Philippians 3:10 Knowing God is not merely gathering information. It is developing fellowship. It is spending time in His Word. It is talking with Him in prayer. It is learning to recognize His voice and trust His character. III. GOD’S PRESENCE CHANGES US When we spend time with God, something wonderful happens. His presence begins to shape us. His peace replaces anxiety. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” — Isaiah 26:3 His wisdom replaces confusion. God gives direction when we seek Him. His strength replaces fear. What once seemed impossible becomes manageable because we are no longer facing it alone. The greatest gift of stillness is not merely answers. The greatest gift is God Himself. IV. MAKING ROOM FOR GOD The difficulties of life can crowd out our fellowship with God. Responsibilities. Schedules. Problems. Technology. Constant noise. Yet Jesus often withdrew Himself to pray. If the Son of God made time to be alone with the Father, how much more do we need those moments? We must intentionally create quiet places in our lives where God has our attention. A chair. A Bible. A few minutes. A willing heart. These simple things can become holy ground. The world tells us to hurry. God tells us to be still. The world tells us to trust ourselves. God tells us to know Him. The world fills our ears with noise. God fills our hearts with His presence. Today, take a few moments to be still before the Lord. Open His Word. Speak with Him. Listen. And discover once again that He is God. Proverb The soul that sits quietly before God often stands strongest before life’s storms. Poem Be still, my soul, the Savior’s near, His voice is calm, His purpose clear. The world may rush, the winds may blow, But peace is found in Him we know. Sit at His feet, let burdens fall, For He is Lord and over all. The heart that lingers in His care, Will find His strength and presence there. Cliché When we stop long enough to know God, we discover He has been holding us all along.
