Not for style. To land more punches and get hit less. When your footwork is heavy, you're slower. Your attacks are predictable. And you never have access to finer, more stylish footwork. We start with a very simple exercise that I do as a warm-up in my classes: the toe-heel. A classic borrowed from jump rope. Then, we move into a fighting stance. We add the jab, the cross, the hook, moving forward, backward, and to the sides. We also borrow exercises from the Soviet school of boxing, the one that shaped Bivol's style. Simple combinations on the surface, but which require real coordination. The only secret to improving at this is repetition.
