Gonnet, on General Belgrano Road, La Plata District, on land that belonged to the former "Swift Golf Club" golf course, intended for the English meatpacking plants established in the region. Construction, which began in 1949 during the governorship of Colonel Domingo Mercante, was carried out by the CAPRESA company and financed with provincial resources through the Buenos Aires Province Investment Institute, enabling the complex to be built in record time. The construction involved 1,600 workers who lived in barracks on the same property. After two years of continuous work, it was finally inaugurated on November 26, 1951, by then-President Lieutenant General Juan Domingo Peron.
