Hello, this is Director Jo from Magic Body. Is sacroiliac joint (SIJ) pain really caused by a misaligned pelvis? In this episode of "Understanding Anatomy," we examine sacroiliac joint pain from a new perspective through the anatomy and function of the gluteus maximus. The gluteus maximus is not merely a muscle that builds the buttocks; it plays a crucial role in hip extension, external rotation, and pelvic stability. In particular, it is a key muscle that transmits force between the upper and lower body by connecting to the thoracolumbar fascia, sacrotuberous ligament, and iliotibial band. Due to sedentary lifestyles, modern people often experience decreased activity in the gluteus maximus. This can lead to excessive load on the sacroiliac joint, lower back, hips, and knees. In this video, we will explain: ✔ The anatomical structure of the gluteus maximus ✔ Functional differences between the upper and lower fibers ✔ Reasons for sacroiliac joint pain ✔ Why sacroiliac joint stability is important ✔ Exercises for sacroiliac joint pain utilizing the gluteus maximus in an easy-to-understand manner. The key to sacroiliac joint pain is not correcting the joint, but creating a system that can efficiently distribute and withstand load.
