Backer rod ear posting method

Materials Needed: -5/8 Backer Rod -1" Zonas Tape -2 Cotton Balls -Scissors Steps: 1. Setting up-Sit your dog in a comfortable place or a table & have someone to help hold your pup down. 2. Measure the backer rod for each ear individually. Grab your backer rod by sticking it down the ear, give yourself about 1" slack. (0:13) 3. Once you have your measured pieces, grab your Zonas tape. Start taping at an angle from one end of the backer rod with the sticky side out. Leave a little but of slack. Do this for both pieces. ***Remember to keep track of which one is for which ear. (0:48) 4. Cut about 3" of tape. Tear that piece down the middle & set to the side. (1:50) 5. Grab your cotton ball & begin to stretch it out in the shape of a circle. Do this for both pieces. (2:16) 6. Grab your backer rod & place the end that's covered with the slack in the center of your cotton ball. Tape the cotton to the rod with your pre-cut tape. Do this for both pieces. (2:34) 7. Grab your backer rod & shove the base into the pocket of the ear. Make sure to stretch the ear fully up. (3:15) 8. Now grab your Zonas tape & place at an angle at the base. Always tape in the direction towards the inside of the top of the head. Squeeze. Do the next ear. ***Make sure to not tape too tight. It could result in cutting off the circulation. If the ear remains like this too long, further surgery might be needed to cut the dead part of the ear off. ***If you're taping your pups right ear, tape counter clockwise. If you're taping your pups left ear, tape clockwise. Tape from the bottom to top. In the past I tried pre-cutting measured strips & my pup was able to scratch them off. I've found it more effective to tape continuous. (3:54) 9. Tape the base of the ears additionally to prevent your pup from scratching off their new posts. Go around the base about 3 times. Squeeze. Do this for both ears. (7:00) 10. Measure about 6" of tape. Tape from one post across to the other post slightly above the head. (8:42) 11. Measure about 6" of tape. Tape the back side & have the sticky sides touch.
