Being alone isn’t unhealthy. It’s necessary. Most people think being alone is a negative experience… but that’s usually because they never actually spend time alone long enough to understand it. So when they finally are alone, it feels uncomfortable. But it’s not the solitude that’s the problem. It’s what happens in your mind when there’s nothing to distract you. When you’re around people, thinking is easy. You’re reacting. Responding. Engaged. But when you’re alone… there’s no prompt. And if you don’t learn how to think for yourself in that space, your mind defaults to rumination. That’s why people think being alone is unhealthy.
