Two Paths… Which One Are You Choosing?
If I gave you two different paths… which one would you choose? The first path is dark. Pitch black. You don’t know what’s waiting for you down there. The only thing you do know is that if you walk down it, you’ll be besieged with intrusive and loquacious voices. The second path is colorful, vibrant, and appealing. It’s filled with distraction, beauty, stimulation, and if you walk down this path, the voices become nearly laconic… or disappear entirely. Most of us would naturally choose the colorful path. Why would anyone willingly walk into darkness and noise when they could choose color and silence instead? In this video, I explore what these two paths really represent. I compare the dark alley to focusing inward — sitting in silence, closing your eyes, and facing the intrusive thoughts and internal noise that arise whenever we stop distracting ourselves. And I compare the colorful path to the external world — stimulation, entertainment, distractions, and everything that keeps us from having to sit with those thoughts. The reason so many of us avoid the internal path is because it’s uncomfortable at first. Meditation and mindfulness force you to face the noise directly instead of running from it. But what I’ve realized is that beyond that noise is where you begin to find your true self. Through meditation and mindfulness, the intrusive thoughts begin to lose their power. The internal chatter quiets down, and you become more aware, more level minded, and more connected to yourself. So sometimes the least appealing path ends up being the most important one.
