Soloing Secrets - Terry Kath
Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with the legendary Terry Kath. I've had a lot of requests to feature more from this late-great legendary six-stringer, and while it was over a year ago when I put together a Chicago Chordplay lesson, this is the first time we've examined Terry's distinct soloing style - so let's dive in! This lesson revolves around a selection of ideas from two classic Chicago albums. This includes various selections from the seminal debut album 'Chicago Transit Authority' from 1969, along with a little from the Chicago XI album from 1977. It's interesting that we're hitting music from Terry's first and last studio albums with the band in this lesson. The lead guitar ideas found in this lesson includes sections of songs such as Poem 58, South California Purples, Liberation, Takin' It On Uptown, and more! As you'll find in the video, we're looking at several signature and classic licks/ideas from Terry in this lesson, including his expressive string bending/vibrato, trademark bluesy melodic phrasing, jazzy legato runs, single string "flutter" licks, and much more! Needless to say, if you're a fan of Terry Kath and the band Chicago, a player wanting to add some classic licks/ideas to their bag of tricks, a guitarist interested in learning more about this historic and influential guitarist, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you!
