Two Piece Vise for the Mini Milling Machine

In this video, I build a custom two-piece milling vise for my mini milling machine, specifically designed to clamp oversized workpieces that won’t fit in a typical mill vise. When a massive cast iron round wouldn’t fit—no matter how I positioned it—I knew it was time for a better solution. So I set out to machine my own two-piece vise that uses the full width of the milling table for clamping. Using a pair of cast iron rounds for the base and some brutally tough high-carbon steel for the hard jaws, I fabricated a fixed jaw and a moving jaw that bolt directly to the table. It’s a compact but powerful workholding setup that turns a small milling machine into a big clamping platform. If you’ve ever run into the limits of a small milling vise, this project might give you some ideas.
