[How is the air-cooled Porsche 911 I bought for 6 million yen 13 years ago?] In the previous article, we had the opportunity to see some of the fashion items that Mr. Takashi Fujii, director of AMAN Co., Ltd., an importer of Italian fashion brands that are popular in Japan, such as Bellwitch, Finamore, and Zanellato, has chosen. Mr. Fujii, who showed us his coveted items, such as Martin Margiela and Lewis Leathers rider jackets, his treasured French military pants, and two Rolex Daytonas with white and black dials, is also a car enthusiast. This time, we moved to his home and had a look at his beloved car. A Porsche 911 with an air-cooled engine mounted on the rear, codenamed 993, emerged from the garage with a manly roar, and the 993 was produced in 1997, the final year of the model year. In other words, this is the last 911 with an air-cooled engine. Moreover, it is a Carrera S with a turbo body. Although the market has calmed down a bit, the used car prices remain high. The new car price was about 10 million yen, but most of them have a similar price tag, and some are close to 20 million yen depending on the mileage, transmission, and interior and exterior color. Fujii bought it for 6 million yen about 13 years ago. He has always admired 911s, so he has no intention of letting it go and has been driving it with great care. The odometer, which was 33,000 km when he bought it, is now at 53,000 km. In other words, he has only driven 20,000 km in 13 years. When he first bought it, he was happy and took it to many places, but after a while he felt it was a waste... But recently, he took his elementary school-aged son in the back seat and his wife in the passenger seat to Roppongi Midtown, and he has been driving it here and there. By the way, he says that people around him were surprised when his child got out of the back seat in a parking lot at Midtown. So, although he hasn't put much mileage into it, he has also been maintaining it thoroughly. Apparently he has a doctor in Atsugi, and he gets regular check-ups. What a happy air-cooled guy. Or rather, maybe you shouldn't have this kind of car unless you're that happy. Now, since the last model year air-cooled guy is not in active duty, Fujii also has a daily driver. From what I saw on Fujii's SNS, it was a Mercedes-Benz Gelände Bargain, an AMG G55, but he recently switched. Fujii said that as expected, the fuel economy was too poor for a daily driver. Instead, he got a BMW Mini crossover, its high-spec model, the "SD", equipped with a diesel engine that is easy on the wallet. The interior is surprisingly spacious, and even though it's diesel, it's not noisy at all. It's a four-wheel drive, so it gives you a sense of security. Fujii seems very satisfied. "However, my son said that he preferred the previous Gelände." The interior of the Mini was so modern that the Fujiis were nostalgic for the authentic dashboard of the Gelände. "If you put the BMW Mini app on your smartphone, you can turn on the air conditioner from a distance, but I don't know how to use it yet," says Fujii. Indeed, he drives more carefully than in a Porsche 993, and passes parked cars quietly. While driving in a Mini Crossover SD, Fujii relived his youth when he discovered fashion.
